The Aragonese Foundation for Research & Development (ARAID) is an Agency in Saragossa (Aragon, Spain) created by the regional Government to promote research, development and innovation. Its main activity is the recruitment of researchers by means of regular calls that are open to talented and experienced researchers of various fields of Research and Knowledge that own a recognised research track record at international level.
In the frame of ARAID’s competitive call for permanent positions, the Aragon Health Sciences Institute (IACS) has launched a call for applications to attract outstanding talent on Advanced Therapies.
Job Profiles
You will have a doctorate in biological sciences or a closely related area with a proven track record of high quality, internationally recognised research, as evidenced by a strong publication record commensurate with your career stage and previous success in securing your own research funding. You will be able to show that you have the excellent interpersonal skills required to lead and motivate a team of research staff. The successful candidate will have an interest in knowledge transfer and industrial collaboration, the commercialisation of intellectual property, and the impact of research translation beyond academia. You will also have a proven record of successful collaboration with colleagues, and good academic citizenship. Ideally you will also have experience supervising the translational and clinical trial work in support of the development of new cell based therapies, and developing the service locally and nationally with peers in order to maintain an up to date, high quality and state of the art patient responsive service.
Up to 3 positions are offered at the Aragon Health Sciences Institute (IACS)
The selected researcher(s) will join the Aragon Health Sciences Institute (IACS), a RDI organisation in Saragossa (Aragon, Spain created in 2002 and currently located within the Aragon Biomedical Research Center (CIBA) built on 2012. IACS is endowed with Core Research facilities and laboratories.
IACS/CIBA is located in walking distance from the main hospitals in the region: Lozano Blesa Clinical University Hospital (HCULB) and Miguel Servet University Hospital (HUMS).
The following positions in the Advance Therapy R&I area are open:
You will have the chance to lead a modern well-equipped cell therapy laboratory, taking responsibility for the relevant scientific and technical staff. Your role will also include the manufacturing of new cell therapies to ensure that the service stays at the cutting edge of patient-focused care.
The Advanced Therapies Platform at IACS has around 500 m2 for equipment dedicated to advanced cell therapies in a restricted GMP environment, from research to development and innovation managed by skilled staff specifically hired for the platform.

Call conditions
The position is open to researcher from all nationalities showing the required academic qualification and research expertise. Candidates are required to have 6 or more years of postdoctoral experience (at the end of the application submission period), with at least 2 years in nationally and internationally recognised research institutions outside of Aragon.
Selected ARAID Researchers at IACS will initially join a work team that considers that they can complement their work or develop a new line, but their final objective within a reasonable period (3 years) is to achieve their scientific independence leading his/her own research line and group (

Wage conditions will be negotiated with the selected candidates and will depend on merits.

The person that would be in charge of the applicant at IACS if he/she would pass the selection process should fill out the EoI form. Thus, it is strongly recommended to get in touch with IACS in before to complete this step (proyectos.iacs@aragon.es). The EoI form should be printed, stamped and signed by the Legal Representative of IACS and sent by post (with a handwritten signature) to ARAID or by mail to araid@araid.es (with an electronic signature), before call deadline.
Evaluation procedure
ARAID owns the European HR Excellence certificate and its calls comply with the principles of equality and transparency.
An external evaluation commission composed by international experts in the field will peer review and evaluate the applications scoring their scientific excellence and leadership capacity as main criteria. If needed, the evaluation of a third expert will be requested. Based on this evaluation and on the interviews carried out with the best candidates, ARAID will set up the final ranking list that will be submitted for approval to the ARAID’s Board of Trustees.
The result of the selection process will be published on the website of ARAID and IACS on 30th of June 2023 at the latest. The selected candidates will have the possibility to join IACS up to a maximum period of 1 year from the day the candidate(s) will receive the appointment letter.
